Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

At Capella House, we are committed to providing all students in Years 7 to 11 with a comprehensive programme of careers education, information, advice, guidance, and work-related learning.

Learners participate in careers learning opportunities that are carefully tailored to each student’s individual needs and are consistent with the eight Gatsby benchmarks:

  • A stable careers programme
  • Learning from career and labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each pupil
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experiences of workplaces
  • Encounters with further and higher education
  • Personal guidance

Our careers programme is designed to:

  • Inspire and inform students by providing relevant knowledge and motivation to explore their future pathways
  • Be student-centred, tailoring support to individual needs and aspirations
  • Integrate careers education into the wider curriculum to make career exploration a natural part of school life
  • Encourage students to reflect on career options and develop decision-making skills throughout Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Provide impartial, high-quality guidance to help students make well-informed choices
  • Raise aspirations and promote equality and diversity, empowering all students to pursue their goals
  • Engage with employers and professionals by offering opportunities to interact through workshops, talks, and work experience
  • Offer exposure to a range of career options, including vocational, academic, and entrepreneurial pathways
  • Support students with post-16 transitions by providing guidance on further education, apprenticeships, and employment
  • Develop essential employability skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving
  • Evaluate and improve continuously to ensure the programme meets the needs of all students

Our goal is to equip every student with the skills, confidence, and knowledge they need to succeed beyond Capella House.

Parents/Carers

Parents and carers are encouraged to play an active role in supporting their child’s career decisions through our school’s annual review process. We also recommend that parents explore the labour market with their child by using various career search websites, such as National Careers Service.

In Year 11, all students participate in a work experience programme to help them gain valuable insights into the world of work. While the school provides support in securing placements, parents are also encouraged to assist their child in finding their own placements where possible.

Employers

Capella House welcomes the opportunity to engage with prospective employers who are willing to share their expertise and help build our students' knowledge of employability skills, the workplace, the labour market, and job search strategies. Your input brings our careers programme to life and has a lasting impact on our students.

If you would like to participate in one of our events or contribute to our careers programme, please get in touch with the school.
